“Decent accent – A Lifestyle Guide for IT Professionals!”
Our knowledge becomes our identity when we share it with others.
In today’s digital world, young professionals of India are influenced by different extrinsic and intrinsic factors that cause physical and mental health issues. Gradually the life of the young generation is becoming inactive and vulnerable. The age group of 25-35 young professionals suffers from mental and neurological disorders which have placed a ponderous burden on our Indian society in terms of mortality, disability, morbidness, and socio-economic losses. Why is it happening so and what is the reason behind it???
The main reason is the workplace environment!!!!
The workplace environment has become challenging and competitive, demanding more work from employees. Multiple tasks, the pressure to work at optimum levels, unending deadlines, heavy workloads, fear of being laid off, rising expectations from boss to perform well, uncooperative colleagues, low work satisfaction are the few factors leading to stress, depression, fears, suicidal attempts.
Isolation and bad habits
Stress is like a silent killer. It sneaks in shadows, sucks all your energy and sacks your focus by shaking your world of happiness. You must know the warning signs of stress as listed below:
- Sleepless nights
- Headache and stomach problems
- Addiction to alcohol and drugs
- Trouble in concentrating
Many young people begin to isolate themselves as they fail to cope up with the issues they face in daily life. They lose inner strength and try to find out their happiness with the use of tobacco, alcohol, sexual behaviors, drugs, which in turn affect them badly leading to long-lasting problems (suicides, violence, road traffic injuries).
How to break your bad habits?
Bad habits never bring a solution but can even worsen your life. We are creatures of habits and whatever habit we develop we repeat it in life and the workplace.
If you’re reading this article and you’re struggling with a bad habit, this is for you — it’s not too late to break it. All you need to do is a STRONG DECISION, a decision to break the yoke of the habit which is holding you tightly to destroy your life. It may not happen suddenly, ACT upon the CHANGE, REPROGRAM your brain to replace new habits with the old one. Eventually, you can see the light coming to you. Yes! The light that sets you free.
Work stress and Relationships
Work is a part of everyone’s life. Too much of job stress on a daily basis can lead to unhealthy relationships no matter how strong is your relationship. As young professionals navigate the requirement of clients and colleagues by spending eight or more hours at the workplace, they fail to give quality time to the family as their energy is drained out at the end of the day. Work stress may have a sneaking negative impact on relationships. The person usually carries the stress to home and discharges that negative energy, usually their parents or spouse will be the miserable targets.
Signs of stress in your relationships
- Bringing work home and making it as a top priority in personal life by ignoring your family.
- Mentally burnt out and emotionally unavailable
- Stress has made its way from the boardroom to the bedroom
- Don’t have sufficient energy to do something outside the office.
- Lack of interest in the family and household chores
Balancing Work Life and Relationship
Many people think that it’s impossible to manage both work stress and family life in equity. However, It’s all about BALANCE. It’s essential to learn to cope with work stress as it‘s unavoidable. Always know how to compartmentalize LIFE by not bringing external issues into your relationships.
Do make your family a priority, not your work, learn to de-stress the stress as you step out from the office, take a healthy diet, commit yourself to daily exercise, get enough sleep for your body, don’t overthink, do things which makes you happy on daily basis. These are few secrets of life that can do wonders for mental health.
Identify your stress levels before it’s too late. Select people whom you trust to share your problems and make a way out. No problem is bigger than your life. For every problem is a solution.
